TMA Presents Lecture by Robert Langham
Tyler, TX (November 4, 2009)
Fine
art photographer Robert Langham will present “Tracking Light
Footprints” during the third installment of the Tyler Museum of Art’s
Fall Lecture Series on Sunday, November 15, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in
the TMA Classroom. The event will be offered at no charge to the
public, and guests are invited to stay for a reception held inside the
Museum lobby following the lecture.
“Tracking Light Footprints” is being presented in conjunction with Light Footprints: New Museum Site Photography by Robert Langham, an
exhibition of Langham’s images taken over the course of two years in
the spring, summer, fall and winter seasons at the future site of the
new TMA building. Through these images, Langham elevates to art form
the current state of the new museum site.
During his lecture, Langham will present a brief history of photography
and also discuss certain techniques including the use of black &
white and color images. He also plans on discussing certain traits of
the new museum site, including native flora and fauna and the site’s
unique ecological profile, characteristics of the site with which
Langham has become personally well acquainted over the two-year
project.
Langham also plans on presenting images of animals living on the
property. The Tyler Museum of Art purchased the site in 2007 and was
drawn to the land in part because it was virtually untouched. Because
the land has not been developed, it exists in a nearly native state and
is home to many examples of indigenous species that are unique to East
Texas.
Visitors may also tour the “Light Footprints” exhibition which is installed with 4 Salvaged Boxes: Sustainable Creative Design” in the Museum’s Bell Gallery.
Langham is a native of Tyler and has been photographing East Texas and
western landscapes since 1971, when he took a photojournalism class at
Tyler Junior College. He has pursued his interest in fine art
photography to wide acclaim while maintaining a successful commercial
photography business right here in the community. Langham has dedicated
a large part of his focus to the East Texas region in order to create
an iconic vision of the landscape. The Tyler Museum of Art, accredited
by the American Association of Museums, is located at 1300 S. Mahon
Ave., adjacent to the Tyler Junior College campus off East Fifth
Street. Regular hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday,
