2007 Annual Spring Fundraiser destination: Art Auction ![]() Unrivaled
Four lucky people will have an unrivaled art experience: a personal, behind-the-scenes, four day tour of two of England's most noteworthy private homes and gardens, led by Deborah Gage. An independent agent and consultant for private collectors and museums around the world, Ms. Gage has more than thirty years experience as a dealer and consultant in the global art market.
The tour begins with a day in London's most exclusive art galleries and lunch at Ms. Gage's own gallery, Deborah Gage Works of Art, in the heart of the Old Bond Street area, London's most exclusive shopping district. Traveling by private car, the group will journey to the countryside in the afternoon. First stop is Cliveden House, a five star hotel housed in a magnificent stately home surrounded by 376 acres of formal gardens. Next up is a behind-the-scenes visit to Firle Place, the Gage family estate in Sussex. Surrounded by an extensive park and woodlands, the mansion is home to immense collections of furniture, paintings and decorative arts amassed by the Gage family in the 500 years this extraordinary property has been their home.
The tour's second stop is Charleston Farmhouse, the 18th century farmhouse which was the unconventional and creative home of a group of artists, writers and intellectuals known as the Bloomsbury Group. Virginia Woolf, Vanessa Bell, Roger Fry, John Maynard Keynes, T. S. Elliot and E. M. Forster were among those who lived or visited this unique place and filled it with paintings, books, furniture and decorated the walls with murals. Preserved by Britain's National Trust, the house and garden at Charleston celebrate the artistic talents, wit and originality of those who lived and vacationed there.
Trip includes three nights' accommodation for four at unforgettable country house hotels, including two nights at Cliveden, and one at Horstedt Place, dinner for four each night and the incomparable company, charm and knowledge of Deborah Gage.
Trip does not include airfare, meals, local transportation or accommodations other than those listed. Trip to occur on a mutually agreed upon date on or before December 1, 2008.
