What does a Tyler Museum of Art Docent do?
A TMA docent is a volunteer who educates visitors on exhibitions and other art-related topics. Opportunities include leading tours of the exhibitions for children and adults, participating in special projects throughout the Museum, and helping with Family Day activities. The Museum is a dynamic, ever-changing environment, so new projects spring up regularly- don’t miss the fun and friendships you will make with the staff and other docents!
Docents are fully trained by Museum staff on the upcoming exhibitions, and often receive additional information from guest speakers. Touring strategies, art history, and art activity procedures are just some of the areas discussed. Training sessions are held eight times a year, and focus on upcoming and current exhibitions.
The docent program offers a unique opportunity for individuals to learn about and enjoy art in a friendly and stimulating environment. It is a rewarding experience to share the Museum’s art with others and to contribute to the education of our school children and community.
